Glass Sharks
The simple office space of 509 Bay Street appears humble enough for the average person who may happen to enter but the unlikely inhabitants are more than meets the eye. Here in Canada’s largest city, home to 2.5 million people and the financial nucleus of the east coast is a vortex where the delusional, the down and out and those destined for wealth all congregate and try their hand at life’s lottery… sales. In a setting reminiscent to Boiler Room a modest group of 200 employees each ply the trade of fast talk in an attempt to make “easy money”. The task required on a daily basis is easy but the job is not as most will find out. A stranger in the city, everything is brand new and large….including the new job that he’s just landed after months of odd jobs and social assistance. As he walks into the office for the first time, he has no idea what to expect or if he has what it takes to survive in his new reality but he knows that he has no choice but to make it work. It’s the only option available as the concrete towers of the GTA have begun to close in on him while he desperately searchesfor a sense of purpose and a way to dig himself out of an unending downward spiral. The disintegration of his relationship with his actress girlfriend and the unexpected ending of what he thought was his dream job finds him making a new home in ‘the big smoke. All these thoughts immediately disappear behind the noise of 160 people all talking at onceon the phones as the receptionist leads him into the office towards the conference room for his orientation and a familiar face stares back at him through the glass…
